SISS has been working the in the field of education for the past seven years, constantly striving for improving educational standards in tribal areas. This Institute organizes Career Counseling for the tribal students, making them aware of higher educational opportunities and provides them with expert guidance to carefully shape their careers.

KBSC (Komaram Bheem Study Cirlce) is one such effort in the field of Education, initiated in the year 1999. As part of promoting higher education in tribal areas, Under KBSC, SISS has taken up a study on the status of education among the tribal students in Andhra Pradesh. In our study, it is established that the students do not aspire for higher education for following reasons.

  • Lack of awareness and exposure to career counseling
  • Meager financial status
  • Because of late admissions into schools, boys and girls attain 17 or 18 years when they complete 10th class. Parents want the boys to support the family economically and if it is a girl, then they would like to see her married.
  • Illiteracy among the adults also plays an important role in this problem.

Our study reveals that most of the dropouts from schools are because of lack of proper awareness on higher education. Girls are worst hit by this unfortunate trend. Only 20% of students who pass out from schools join College and only 3% of them reach PG level. SISS is determined to improve educational standards in this community by constant motivation and guidance.

The Institute conducted motivational camps for the tribal students of 10th class at the Tribal schools to make them know their strengths. This was followed by career counseling under the guidance of experienced counselors to make them opt for appropriate courses for their further studies. An extensive tour of the area was made to instill confidence among the students and their parents. Career counseling centres at Mandal level encouraging the students to aspire for higher education are being organized at the beginning of the academic year

In 2000, SISS has started to mobilize these students and motivate them for higher education. For this purpose, a hostel has been established for these students at Hyderabad, there by providing the best academic environment for these tribal students. Staying 320 days at KBSC in a calendar year is mandatory for these students.
